The GALA Approach

Mentorship

In a perfect world, we would all be born experts. Unfortunately, for most of us, becoming skilled breeders is a long journey of trial, error, and experience. To support our carefully selected GALA members, we have developed a truly unique mentorship program designed to make that journey smoother.

Our program works in two ways:

1. A comprehensive educational library

We offer a carefully curated collection of step-by-step learning materials that guide you through the entire breeding process—from selecting the ideal pairing to sending home healthy, well‑bred puppies. This allows new breeders to benefit from the years of knowledge and experience held by established breeders.

2. Mandatory mentoring for new breeders

Any breeder who sells breeding stock to a new or less experienced breeder must provide mentoring as part of their responsibility when placing breeding dogs. This ensures that new breeders receive hands‑on guidance, not just information.

There are many advantages to joining a reputable breed association as an Australian Labradoodle breeder. We are particularly proud to include this mentorship program as part of our membership, demonstrating our genuine dedication to improving the breed and supporting the next generation of ethical, responsible breeders.

A Clear and Supportive Complaint & Mediation Process

At GALA, members may submit concerns at any time. Each submission is taken seriously and handled with care. When appropriate, we offer a structured mediation process in which both parties can work toward a resolution with the guidance of a neutral team member in a respectful, collaborative environment.

The GALA Dog Registry

A Welcoming, Supportive, and Democratic Community

GALA is built on the belief that strong communities are grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared purpose. We welcome breeders at all stages and foster an environment where members feel supported, heard, and valued.

Our structure is intentionally democratic, giving members a voice and encouraging open dialogue, thoughtful input, and collective decision-making. Together, we work to support one another while advancing the integrity of the breed.

Breed Standards

The Australian Labradoodle is a purpose-bred companion, developed with careful attention to health, temperament, and balanced structure.

GALA’s breed standard reflects this intention. It is designed to support dogs who are not only beautiful, but sound—physically capable, genetically diverse, and able to live active, comfortable lives.

At GALA, health and structure are inseparable. Responsible breeding requires thoughtful selection, evidence-based health testing, and a long-term commitment to preserving both physical soundness and emotional stability.

As a global community, we respect that breeding practices may vary across regions. What unites us is a shared responsibility to uphold clear, science-based standards that protect the integrity and future of the Australian Labradoodle.

This standard serves as a guide for breeders dedicated to producing dogs who are balanced in body and mind—dogs who can move freely, live well, and thrive as lifelong companions.

Colors and Patterns

The Australian Labradoodle is known for its beautiful variety of colors and patterns, which add to the breed’s unique charm while maintaining a consistent coat.

There are two base colors: Black and chocolate. Black dogs have black noses and dark eyes. They may have chalk, apricot, red or black coat colors. Brown dogs have rose noses and hazel eyes. They may have caramel, chocolate or cream coat colors. Shades may soften as the dog matures. In addition to solid colors, Australian Labradoodles may display distinctive patterns such as phantom, parti, and sable, each contributing to the dog’s individuality.

While appearance is a lovely feature of the breed, GALA emphasizes that temperament, structure, and health always come first. Color and pattern are considered secondary to the development of well-rounded, predictable companion dogs. While the coat of a multi-generation ALD is generally considered allergy-friendly and non-reactive for many individuals, responses may vary depending on both the dog and the person.
